Agenda Item #45

Item Title
Recognize Volunteers of the Year (Carol Studdard)

Issue/Rationale

As in years past, the volunteers were chosen by a district committee based on the volunteers’ applications. The applications include number of years of volunteer service, average hours of weekly service and a brief summary of the individual’s volunteer services.  Clay County’s winners will now go on to compete for “Regional Volunteer of the Year” in their respective categories. Their names and their applications have been submitted to the Department of Education’s Bureau of Family and Community Outreach Office.

  • Youth Volunteer of the Year: Tomilyn (Tommy Lynn) Edwards:  She is a student at Wilkinson Junior High, but spends her mornings volunteering at nearby Clay Hill Elementary.  She volunteers in the Media Center and various classrooms doing whatever needs to be done.
  • Adult Volunteer of the Year: Daniel Donovan.  He volunteers at Orange Park Junior High.  Among other things, he helps the groundskeeper, helped to erect the concrete fence on the OPJH campus and he is actively involved in Special Olympics for the entire county.
  • Senior Volunteer of the Year: Junella Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson has been a volunteer at Doctors Inlet Elementary for the past 28 years.  The faculty says it is hard to imagine running a school without Mrs. Johnson, who volunteers throughout the school community, helping however and wherever she is needed.
